Ruff and Tumble what

RUFF and Tumble plays traditional music for ceilidhs, twmpath or barn dances. These are three names for the same thing - dancing in sets of couples to the instructions of a caller.

The caller will give full instructions during the "walk-through" of the dance and then will call the movements during the dancing.

The difficulty of the dance is pitched at the capabilities of those there on the night.

The band supplies its own PA system and needs at least one hour set-up time before the start of the evening and half an hour to de-rig at the end.

Most evenings start at 8 pm and experience indicates that 11.30 pm is a good finishing time. A break of about 30 minutes in the middle of the evening gives both the band and the dancers a chance for a rest.

The band can supply a suitable caller or is happy to play for an independent caller.
